NCFCA Participation
Podium Power debate students actively participate in NCFCA speech and debate tournaments.
Speech & Debate
Public Speaking: Grades 7-
This course includes instruction in oral interpretation, the fundamentals of public speaking, and policy debate. Each individual will improve his/her poise and confidence when speaking before an audience. Skills in research, logic, organization, and writing will be developed.
Oral Interpretation: Students will prepare and present readings from selected prose and poetry.
Fundamentals of Public Speaking: Students will research, write and deliver informative, persuasive, and demonstration speeches. Students will also practice impromptu speaking.
Policy Debate: Students will be introduced to team policy debate according to NCFCA rules. Students will prepare for and participate in a classroom debate.
Competitive Speaking: Students will have the option of participating in NCFCA tournaments. (IE list and rules:www.ncfca.org )

Team Policy Debate: Grades 8-
This course is designed to prepare students in policy debate for tournament participation in the NCFCA home school speech and debate league. Debate classes are taught with the intention of helping each individual student improve his or her poise and confidence when speaking before an audience. Skills in critical thinking, defending worthy ideas, attacking invalid ideas, persuasion, research, organization, and writing will be developed.
Successful students will have strong reading, writing, and researching skills.
This course requires access to the Internet.
NOTE: Debate students are required to participate in a minimum of two tournaments.
